Review of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) by Paul P — 14 Feb 2010
If you need proof that roger ebert is one of the coolest cats in the cinema firmament, submitted for your approval is this take no prisoners send-up of well pretty much everything.
A collaboration with cleavage evangelist russ meyers, ebert sets his sights on the folly and hypocrisy of a culture made in america, with the delirious savagery of a man with nothing to lose.
It is amusing to view the film as a roman a clef of hollywood pop culture in the 60's so razor sharp is the satire, but the execution is ultimately more durable and universal in its subversion.
