Review of Beyond the Rocks (1922) by David B — 22 Feb 2009
The plot is as old as the hills and the melodrama is more risible than affecting. Also, the movie is slow going in the middle parts, though it picks up nicely in the last half hour with an amusing letter switcharoo and an eventful trip to the Sahara.
None of this is to say this is a bad film, it's just kind of mediocre and of interest primarily on account of the Swanson/Valentino pairing (although there doesn't really seem to be much "chemistry" between the two.
