Review of Beyond the Mat (1999) by Simon P — 03 May 2008
Entertaining documentary providing some interesting insights both behind the scenes of pro-wrestling and into the personal and family lives of those invloved. This covers the whole spectrum, from wannabes to the big names and small time promoters up to the mighty McMahon dynasty, neatly balancing the truly tragic with the happy families.
Barry Blaustein's love for wrestling combined with his cutting back and forth between the three main subjects carry this along at a quick pace which compliments his, seemingly, laid back approach to film making.
