Review of Beverly Hills Cop (1984) by Tony P — 05 Jul 2017
Energetic comedy from 1984 featuring a great comic performance by Eddie Murphy as a cop who doesn't exactly play by the rules.
Murphy plays Axel Foley, a Detroit detective with a motor mouth!
After an old friend is murdered in Detroit the trail leads to Beverly Hills. City of the rich lifestyle and a crooked Steven Berkoff as the bad guy.
Berkoff is fresh from his stint as a James Bond baddie in Octopussy (1983).
The Detroit cop treads onto Beverly Hills Police Department territory with hilarious results as the hapless (celebrity pampered?) colleagues are shown up in a variety of scenes.
Look out for the banana in the exhauast pipe scene for example.
Murphy exhibits an annoying habit to speak fast, and with a variety of voices but as the film develops this becomes quite funny.
The film spawned a franchise which I may just explore now faster than the 33 years to watch this entry!
