Review of Beverly Hills Cop (1984) by Swag M — 16 Jun 2014
You know you're watching an 80s American action movie when it involves a smart talking, unorthodox policeman and a villain with a foreign accent. This incorporates similar plot details as 'Die Hard' and the 'Lethal Weapon' series, albeit with less impressive action.
It is hard not to like Eddie Murphy as the lead but it is even harder to fully appreciate what may have been his career-starting role due to the fact he has been much funnier in other films. Although not bad, there is not much reason to travel back in time to see this other than to witness where the rise of Eddie Murphy began before 'Norbit' and 'Meet Dave' led to his horrendous downfall.
