Review of Best of the Best (1989) by Marta G — 30 Sep 2010
This movie is alright.
This film is about a U.S. karate team consisting of a widower and father to a five year old son, Alexander Grady(Eric Roberts), Tommy Lee (Phillip Rhee) a man seeking revenge against a fighter that caused the death of his brother(not revealed until later in the movie) Travis Brickley (Christopher Penn) a arrogant angry fighter with a short fuse, Virgil Keller (John Dye)a devout buddhist, and Sonny Grasso (David Agresta) a streetwise fighter from detroit.
Ok these five men made the U.S. national karate team against Korea, they are coached by Frank Couzo (James Earl Jones) to fight. These guys all get along ok their only issue is Travis, he is the main trouble causer in the team.
Now getting to opinion... this movie was overall a good movie. Not great just an average run of the mill nice little movie.
The only not good parts about this movie are a few un-necessary scenes (such as the meditating and the bar fight) and it could've been casted just a little better, looking at the team you wouldn't think they're karate fighters.
The films message is mainly sportsmanship, love of family and never give up.
Good movie for the whole family to enjoy, not spectacular but good.
