Review of Best Man Down (2012) by Jesse O — 07 Mar 2014
I thought this movie was very well done for a independent film on 'life how it is.' Most indie films try to hit that mark, setting you up with a situation between family and friends that makes you feel and commiserate with the characters and this movie actually does it. I have watched a lot of sub-par indie films and this one feels like people just threw it in with the rest of the bunch perhaps due to the lead roles.
When you really let yourself come from the perspective of the groom, the story unfolds wonderfully. You make so many assumptions about the best man that all ring false in the end and it's a nice wake up call to not jump to conclusions about anyone, even if they are someone you have know all your life.
And as for all the little side stories with the pills, the pastor, the mom's boyfriend, they all are key parts to help the serendipity of life that the best man leaves behind. His intentions play out even though he isn't there. It's a wonderfully fluid unfolding of events that let you remember those times in your life when those 'impossible' coincidences occurred.
