Review of Bernie (2012) by Ken S — 06 Jan 2013
Jack Black has rightly earned a lot of praise for his performance as the lovable Bernie Tiede, a funeral director who befriends a nasty old lady, and let her abuse him until he snapped and murdered her.
It is a fun character study film, with plenty of laughs and a twisted dark comedic plot, and its structure mixes traditional storytelling with a bit of mockumentary thrown in. Black's character is sort of a nut, but it isn't the character he is so often associated with, which is great.
..its almost a subtle over the top portrayal, very well done. Mostly though, the film is just entertaining, it doesn't do anything extraordinary, but it at least entertains thoroughly.
