Review of Bernie (2012) by Stephen E — 15 Dec 2012
Richard Linklater's account of the events leading up to the incarceration of funeral director Bernie Tiede is as warm and humbling as the titular character himself. Filmed in a style that partially consists of interviews from those that knew the beloved mortician, "Bernie" deals not with the details of the murder case, but rather with aspects of Bernie's life as well as the perplexed reactions of Carthage's citizens.
Jack Black delivers a softly brilliant performance, diving wholeheartedly into his character and proving once again that he's one of the better actors working today. It's touching and tragic and Linklater tells it like it is.
