Review of Bernie (2012) by Kris R — 25 Dec 2012
In the praise and criticisms that I can recollect from peers regarding the acting prowess (or lack thereof) of Jack Black, it's often arrives in spades, coated in poison or tied in a bow, depending who you ask.
As for me, whether it is School of House, rock of ages star from Tenacious D with the crassness and wild-eyed hysteria associated with his popular visage, or the surprise genuine chops of subtle acting that makes Bernie both a surprise and joy to watch, I have been a fan of both, and this film rather be, as it should, a testament to that untapped potential an actor can unleash, given a good script and a director with the right vision.
It's always an amusing experience when a comedic experience like this can make you laugh and question your own opinions on society, and Bernie fits the bill on both ends, without the drone of a Sunday sermon and the high-pitch din of fraternity absurdity.
