Review of Bernie (2012) by Zach C — 31 Dec 2012

There are many things to be liked about this film - I haven't seen a movie with so much attention to detail in a while. Everything is in place, the acting, the costumes, the settings - what a great overall achievement!

I was most struck by the amazing ambiguity it achieves - I could feel my mind flip-flopping on whether I found its main character disgusting, sweet, crazy, appalling, stupid, adorable, tragic, admirable, unbelievable... the movie rides the line prefectly right until the end.

Due to some of its more irreverent themes not everyone will feel comfortable with it, but I was definitely drawn in beginning to end and could not take my eyes off it.

I'm also glad for Jack Black that he is getting a role that showcases his many talents so well.
