Review of Bernie (2012) by Henri J — 24 Feb 2013
This is a dark comedy. Most should already know this, but know that this is the type of comedy where you go "Oh, that was quite clever." and you will smirk or laugh slightly but not greatly. Now all of the acting in the film is very good, Jack Black is able to do a very hard job and that is portray someone as very nice, not to a point where it is annoying, and actually human, unlike some other characters in film.
The only complaints that I can think of are the overly dark points in the film, and the fact of the distribution. The problem with the distribution is that I think it spent too much time on Bernie being stuck with Marjorie and not enough time with the relationship with him and Matthew McConaughey's character.
I have seen many things talking about McConaughey's performance and how amazing it is. And yes it is quite fantastic, the only problem is that he is not in a lot of the film. His character really gets wings in the last third of the film but that doesn't feel like it is enough.
I did very much enjoy the film despite these flaws and really did enjoy the performance by Jack Black, his best performance in a very long time.
