Review of Bernie (2012) by Eric G — 16 May 2013
Fascinating true story shot in documentary style, with a mix of actors for the key characters and actual people for secondary (and real) roles. After spending almost 2h with Bernie, I still don't know what to make of him.
Is he a simple and naive man or strangely manipulative and deranged? In any case, the tone is light and funny, and it's a great showcase for Jack Black who, at last, gives a great performance and leaves stupid comedies behind - hopefully.
Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey are also excellent. Unexpectedly entertaining. A very good surprise.
