Review of Bernie (2012) by Nyease S — 03 Aug 2013
Bernie boasts one of the finest acting performances you will ever see from Jack Black in a funny and dark film about murder in Texas. Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey also add great characters to the fold, but what really makes this film unique is the use of the Carthage townspeople, who end up becoming the best and worst part of this film. The interview scenes are great because each townsperson has his or own way of storytelling, and they are all passionate and usually hilarious, but when Linklater chooses to use them in the dramatic re-enactments, their acting abilities bring some of the scenes down. Still, I enjoy this type of dark humor and if you enjoy black comedies you'll certainly like it too.
