Review of Bernie (2012) by Joe D — 21 Sep 2014
Jack Black gives the performance of a lifetime in Bernie, a film that makes no assumptions about the subject matter, and is all the better for it. The audience is left to make their own mind up about just exactly what and who Bernie is. With all the praise being laid on Black, the rare gem that is a excellent performance from Matthew Mcconaughey is undeservedly easy to overlook.
If it wasn't based on true events, it could have come straight from the Coen Brothers. This equal parts dark comedy, documentary, courtroom drama and deep character study is the weirdest film you'll see this year, but I highly recommend it.
