Review of Bernie (2012) by J. Scott F — 27 Aug 2015
This is a unique film - at times funny, dark, sweet, touching, ironic, but at heart - it is essentially a legal docudrama.
The role of Bernie Tiede is Jack Black's best performance to date - he embodies this character honestly, allowing the humor and irony to arise from the reality of the situations rather than turning this real individual into a caricature. I did not find anything mocking or tongue-in-cheek about Jack's performance, although it may seem that way to those that have never met anyone like Bernie before. Jack Black's sensitivity and honesty allows the film to work on several levels at once.
