Review of Beowulf & Grendel (2005) by Yazhi S — 01 Dec 2007
It only got a star b/c Gerry Butler and Stell Skarsgard are in it.
The story has no cohesion- if you haven't studied the poem, you're lost (I watched it with someone who hadn't and had to explain).
And if you have studied the poem, this is terribly unfulfilling. The witch chick is awful (can't tell if it's the director or the actress, since the whole movie is awful, too).
The attempt at integrating a story-teller was good, but an unsuccessful one.
How anticlimactic. I'll stick to Heaney's translation.
