Perhaps the worst adaptation I've ever seen; beyond the point of a butchering. Even on its own terms this version of Beowulf is still awful and about all that keeps it about other steaming piles of film trash are its occasionally fancy visuals.
But as anyone who's seen most of Emmerich's (recent) films should know, visuals can't save a film.
