Review of Beowulf (2007) by Jonathan G — 03 Jan 2012
I'm going to take a chance here by saying this is no the great epic that the film companies, and internet hype made this film out to be. Sure the CGI motion capture, or the digital look to everything is a feet in of itself, and actor's portraying the different characters do fantastic jobs, but it is true, that Beowulf is just a story that needs to visual representation, especially once that.
..im sorry...looks as good as a next gen video game system. DON'T get me wrong, the story is a fantastic one, it would have to be to withstand the test of time as it as, and 3-D is just incredible.
Don't expect disney world like 3-D but it comes pretty close. Overall the computer generated characters do in fact come to life, that is never a question, and the encounter with Grendel is definitely disturbing.
All in all it deserves a watch in 3-D. I applaud Zemeckis for his efforts and the entire team responsible for bringing such an old moralistic tale into the modern world of film.
