Review of Beowulf (2007) by Shawna L — 29 Jan 2012
If you enjoy Golem in Lord of the Rings, then you'll love the style of this version of Beowulf, done entirely like Golem on the largest "volume stage" in the world. Crispin Glover cleans house with his full-throttle performance of Grendel, a Grendel unlike any we've ever read about or seen.
Jolie is perfect as his seductive, shape-shifting mother, and our hero, Beowulf, is truly the man of legend. You may think that because it's animated, the actors simply sat in a sound booth recording their lines, but the bonus features prove otherwise.
They all worked their bodies and voices to exhaustion, but the end result is worth it. Hopefully, more movies will be made this way because it really is amazing... It's all about the eyes.
