Review of Benny & Joon (1993) by James R — 21 Mar 2009
A romantic comedy on the edge of reality; and a deliciously Deppsian fest. It's films like this one where you can really see Jonny Depp as the fantastic actor he is. In this crazy RomCom he plays 'Sam' - who falls in love with Joon, a young lady with a penchant for burning things.
Depp showcaess his remarkable comedic sense of timing, quirkiness and character in a stand out performance. Quinn and Masterson put in strong performances as well, but Depp is the real star. This is a real feel good film with clever creative dialogue and the best use of an iron I've ever seen.
I'm tempted to get the iron out and try it myself. If you're in a good mood and you fancy a light hearted fluffball of a movie, this should be it. It should be much more well known than it is; and I shall advocate watching it to everyone I see.
