Review of Benny & Joon (1993) by Patrick G — 12 May 2009
This film was pretty predictable as it included the person-being held-back-by-his-obligations-to-his-handicapped-relative-and-it-takes-him-the-whole-movie-to-figure-out-that-he-needs-to-let-his-relative-do-her-own-thing device which was included in other movies such as I Am Sam and Love Actually. however, it succeeded in leaving me thinking, "aww, that was cute!".
Probably, this film's best quality is Johnny Depp channeling Buster Keaton. I know that JD is cool now, but he has always been so far ahead of his time!
Oh, and don't forget, this film made the song "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers famous in America!
