Review of Benny & Joon (1993) by Richard F — 11 Jun 2009
First impressions aren't everything, as seen with the production with this film. What starts out as a straightforward, spelled-out, and predictable plot takes a less cliche route to the same destination at the end of the movie.
Genuine conflict that puts the viewer in a torn position is the film's greatest attribute, and the symbolic nuances between societal norms and the nature of love are resounding. Of course no review of this movie would be complete without mentioning the ingenuity of Depp, one of the finest physical actors of his generation.
