Review of Bend It Like Beckham (2002) by Esther L — 27 Feb 2011
I've watched this movie several times and it's quite funny. The movie is about an Indian girl who dreams of playing soccer for a pro team and gets a chance to do so. However, she faces the disapproval from her family and relatives. The themes in the movie are culture clashes and gender roles within a society.
This movie discusses issues that are relevant to Singapore. For example, the setting of the movie is in the UK, which is a multicultural society like Singapore. Different cultures have different traditions and values. We have to realise that though it is good to stick to our traditions, we have to strike a balance between conservativeness and open-mindedness.
Overall, this movie is decent, but nothing impressive.
