Review of Bend It Like Beckham (2002) by Erik G — 24 Jan 2012
As what the movie poster for 'Bend It Like Beckham' says, it's hugely enjoyable and a winner, and it is. I recently saw this movie, and liked it for the interesting story on how two girls from different cultural backgrounds with a passion for soccer (or, as what the British call it, football) and chasing their dreams of scoring in the team.
But the film's main focus is on Jess (played by Bollywood actress Parminder Nagra), who has to choose between soccer or her orthodox Sikh customs, and to save face, she must hide the fact that she has to attend soccer games in secret.
This, along with help from her friend Jules (Keira Knightley), makes Jess score just like her hero David Beckham (whom the film title references). 'Bend It Like Beckham' deserves a high score of four stars.
..GOAL!
