Review of Ben-Hur (1959) by Prithviraj P — 04 Dec 2009
Just when I thought no movie could ever be compared to Gladiator.....
My first thought before watching this film was how I'm going to survive for the whole 210 minutes & trust me never felt bored by any single moment of it!
From the very beginning(which depicts the birth of Jesus christ) to the very end of the film, the movie was so brilliant!
For a movie of its time & even today I'll always regard it as perhaps the best movie ever made.
Watching the film made me a big fan of charlton heston(& the very beautiful Cathy O'Donnell) ...his depiction of the titular character Judah Ben-Hur was excellent.Stephen boyd also served as a perfect friend-turned-enemy of Ben-hur.
Also some good supporting characters provided by Jack hawkins,Hugh Griffith & Haya Harareet.
The boat scene & the chariot scene were particularly very masterfully directed & no matter how much I write about it,it wouldn't be enough!
What a movie!......I'm so glad I watched this film in my lifetime.....BRAVO William Wyler for making such an epic.
If you havent seen it yet...well make sure you watch it just once in your life!
