They literally do not make films like Ben-Hur anymore. From the elaborate sets to the exquisite costumes, to the deliberate Christianity, to the hordes of extras, this film is epic. The chariot race, in particular, is spectacularly executed.
There's a reason Ben-Hur is both the Best Picture of 1959 and the highest-grossing film of that same year - it's simply amazing. It's really long and it's fairly slow at parts, but it's still amazing.
