Review of Ben-Hur (1959) by Isabel E — 11 Jul 2011
An interesting journey, but it was way to preachy and not at all subtle. Juda kept reflecting back "A man showed me mercy once...." At the same time the grandeur and scope of the film was astounding.
The chariot scene was thrilling, but there was also time spent with dialogue that didn't move and constantly waiting for a delivery that never really came. The inner confliction and sound acting by Heston weren't able to shine through the boredom of this epic.
