Review of Belle de Jour (1967) by Carmen C — 14 Jul 2009
I dont find so much pleasure in this as it seems most others do. I dont even know that I would term this an "erotic film." there is eroticism in it, certainly, but "erotic film," no.
deneuve is attractive as always and coy in this film. but bunuel, while I love many of his films seems a bit too wrapped up in the controversiality (only at the time, of course) of his subject. I was not shocked in the least, and if the shock of these events isnt present I think the effect of the film is thrown off its balance.
