Review of Belle de Jour (1967) by Andrey B — 09 Mar 2013
She's a wealthy but bored young woman married to an attractive and busy husband. She lacks passion for him and starts to have strangely sexual fantasies and daydreams. One day someone tells her about a whorehouse in innocent conversation and feels intrigued.
She then out of curiosity investigates and gradually agrees to be a prostitute from 2-5. The rest is suspenseful and tragic showing a wide gamut of human sexuality. It must have been SHOCKING to 1960's audiences.
French babe Catherine Deneuve is SENSATIONAL in the lead role. She is dispassionate from her own sensibilities, implying that Deneuve chose to play the character as a mentally ill person which is brilliant.
