In his second to last movie Sellers makes an incredible role as an idiot savant gardener who gets homeless and by a series of accidents rises to heavy weight man of political influence in the US politics.

And, unlike Dubya, who is just an idiot without savant, he does it without dad's help. Both stories, however, suggest that an idiot can run the USA. Unfortunately the latter one is not fiction. But back to the film.

Sellers plays pretty atypical role for him, a serious one, and excels in it. Sellers sought to expand his career to serious roles, but died prematurely just after he had started. The movie was awarded with and Oscar, but not to Sellers who was nominated for his role as the best actor.

For a second time. The first was his role in Dr. Strangelove. The BBC radio show Best Sellers - The Life and Times of Peter Sellers posited that Sellers might have lost his first Oscar nomination for critisizing Hollywood, and his nomination from this film due to the outtakes which appear after the movie ends.

This movie has a great, touching ending where the main character ends up walking on the water. If you still haven't seen this film, push the stop button of your DVD player before the end credits begin.

The outtakes of Sellers losing his poker face just ruin the illusion the movie managed to make big time. I wonder who the fuck come up with the idea of inserting those to the end of the movie, probably trying to capitalize on Sellers' reputation as a comedian.

Bad, bad move. But the roots of this movie are strong enuff to stand even those stupid outakes and there IS growth after the outtakes are gone. .
