Review of Being There (1979) by Jose M — 19 Feb 2009
I was blown away by this film. It left me with such a broad range of emotions after viewing it, that I cannot possibly do it any justice with any of the commentary I write about it. Just know that Peter Sellers delivers one of the greatest performances I have ever seen, giving us a character that blurs the line between retardation, autism, or just plain innocent and sheltered.
Melvyn Douglas is spectacular in his supporting role as the dying business man, and political insider. The film, along with Dr. Strangelove cements Sellers as one of the greatest comedic talents to have ever emerged in Hollywood, and he is still unparalleled to this very day.
Amazing film that should be seen by all film lovers.
