Review of Being There (1979) by Paul P — 01 Jun 2009
In any other director's hands this could've been a dreadful piece of film. But Ashby's steady hand makes this a masterpiece. Being There ups the audacity with every scene and it never becomes hokey.
It finds a rare tone of being ridiculous, satirical, funny and fascinating. Peter Sellers is a superhero as far as i'm concerned. His performance stands right next to what he did with Strangelove.
One of the greatest endings to a movie in the history of film!
