Review of Being Julia (2004) by Madeline M — 09 Sep 2008
I had fairly low expectations about Being Julia - mostly I was watching for Jeremy Irons - and I was pleasantly surprised. It hits some unexpected emotional beats, with characters who get away with things instead of reforming or suffering.
Benning's performance is prickly and sometimes irritating, but that's very much the character she's playing so I think it was a good decision.
