Review of Being Julia (2004) by Jasdeep C — 26 Apr 2009
I want to preface this by saying that I am a big fan of Annette Benning and Jeremy Irons. However, in this movie I didn't like any of the characters. Which made it really hard for me to enjoy the movie.
The entire movie revolves around Julia Lambert, a successfuly stage actress in 1930s London. Her marriage to Jeremy Irons is successfuly and they have one son, Roger. Julia though, is insecure, histrionic, selfish and a complete bitch.
She has a torrid affair with Tom, a younger man who uses Julia for money. Tom in turn, is sleeping with a young actress named Avis. Avis is sleeping with Michael, Julia's husband. The last half of the movie sets up the final scene, in where Julia publicly humiliates Avis by showing the entire audience who the real actress is.
I didn't enjoy the characters, but the filming with great and the acting was well done.
