Review of Begotten (1991) by Toronto D — 20 Oct 2009
Among the most shocking films I've seen. Period. And yes, what you heard about this is all true, as outrageous as it may sound. The opening is a scene where God disembowels himself with some kind of knife and "mother nature" emerges from his entrails only to impregnate herself from God's spilled semen. Oh, and after that gets REALLY weird!
I don't mind shocking, crazy movies at all, and I've seen enough (too many?) of them to no longer be overwhelmed by the actual shock value. Unfortunately, beyond the strangeness, I just found this to be boring. Sorry, but give me something to think about over the 80 minutes other than "WTF?". I mean "WTF?" is cool in small doses, but not for an entire full length movie with nothing else to offer.
