Review of Before Sunset (2004) by Daniel J — 31 Aug 2014
The second installment in Richard Linklater's masterful "Before" trilogy, Before Sunset, is just as poignant and beautiful as the first film, but is a less fantastical story than the highly romanticized Before Sunrise.
Sunset focuses on the darker side of forgotten love and missed opportunities with grace and elegance that everyone can relate to. Taking place 9 years after that one night in Vienna, Jesse and Celine have "moved on" and run into each other in Paris.
Just like the first, Before Sunset takes place over one night, with nothing to move the plot except dialogue, and just like the first.... it's unbelievable. Sunset is arguably better than Sunrise, which is crazy to me, because Sunrise was outstanding.
