Review of Before Night Falls (2000) by Destiny S — 02 Jul 2007
I knew nothing about the late Cuban writer/poet Reinaldo Arenas before I rented this. Now I'm consumed with reading everything he ever touched. This is the film that worships the rebellious spirit of repressed society; Cuba before and after Castro.
Young Diego Luna has a bit part as an early crush of Arenas. Johnny Depp has two roles and Sean Penn rears his talented, albeit ugly, head. There is also a cameo from that all time favorite, the hoop with a stick in it.
