Review of Before Night Falls (2000) by Christian John V — 05 Nov 2011
Moderately interesting biopic. The story itself is overly long and drawn out, and never seems to gather any real momentum. However, the inherent messages on freedom of expression, freedom of sexual-orientation, and the tyranny of the Castro regime make this worth watching. These, and a powerful (Oscar-nominated) performance from Javier Bardem.
Nice little cameos from Johnny Depp and Sean Penn. You have to be quite alert to spot Penn's appearance.
