Review of Before Night Falls (2000) by Nathan B — 02 Dec 2007
This movie was great. A little long (it seems like biopics do that... Ray comes to mind, and Walk the Line...) but very good, and it was about a way-cool guy, who takes life always with courage and a sense of humor. His whole life changes on one freak accident. The camera work is very interesting, sometimes taking the perspective of objects. Overall, a very 'arty' movie that was well executed.
This deserves way more than the average three and a half stars. It is impeccably done, everything from the camera work, to the sound, to the acting, to the script - especially the script - is totally on point, and there is only one lull in the entire movie, when he moves from Cuba, but that is excusable (and probably expected) for a biopic.
