Surprisingly unremarkable biography of Cuban homosexual poet Reinaldo Arenas from poverty and promiscuity to freedom in the United States and finally death at a young age from AIDS. The central performance from Javier Bardem is impressive (he carries the movie wel)l however the film itself moves slowly and fails to introduce any other characters of worth, additionally it seems to be uncertain about what point it is trying to make about pretty much any issue it raises.
