Review of Before Night Falls (2000) by Gina E — 06 Feb 2010
Very rushed, provocative, disturbing, and poorly executed.
Step by Step Summary.
A homosexual writer in Cuba stirs up politics with his exploitation of sexuality in writing and in public. While this can be understood by a homosexual audience or a Cuban more so then someone else "Before Night Falls" became boring, and predicting. When a film only captivates you for 5-10minutes tops (in this case Johnny Depps small role) you then know it was a waste of film.
While The acting was good, the directing was hideous, and quite amateur. The point could have also gotten to the viewer quicker with the lack of sexual acts, and instead references.
