Review of Before Midnight (2013) by Conrad T — 03 Jun 2015
Very different from the first two movies in a lot of ways. The format is the same. It's about two people engaging in soul talk, the kind of talk that touches all kinds of topics, from banal musings to passionate beliefs and ideals and wants and desires.
In the first two, we see two people desperate to connect with each other ready to bare their souls completely for each other. In this movie, however, they are together and have been for a while. If the first two are the butterflies in the stomach, this one is about the petty frustrations of daily lives that keep them from having that much dreamed of "happy ever after.
" The same two passionate, idealistic people now have to deal with frustrations and life decisions and responsibilities and even infidelities. And after all, it is poignant for them to realize that despite all that, they are each other's soulmates.
