Review of Before Midnight (2013) by Jack A — 13 Nov 2013
It has the same feel as the first two instalments, but the optimism of the first and the drive of the second has been replaced by real (as well as quite a few petty) concerns. Delpy's character comes across as increasingly neurotic as she struggles to balance being a mother and in a relationship with her work and feminist ideals, whilst Hawke is ever more bumbling, childish and short-sighted.
Whilst it's excruciating to see Delpy place Hawke in logical tiger traps, and to watch Hawke attempt to avoid answering awkward questions, the conclusion mercifully makes the point that there is that most wonderful of things in all of the 'Before.
..' series, hope.
