In a landscape littered with franchises, here is a trilogy that towers above them all. With 'Before Midnight', Richard Linklater has created a series of films that have actually become better with each installment.
The sweet romanticism of 'Before Sunrise' was replaced with a slightly more cynical tone in 'Before Sunset', and 'Before Midnight' now brings us face-to-face with a brutal reality.
This is a masterpiece. Are we to see a final 'Before Noon' film on old age?
