Review of Before I Go to Sleep (2014) by James S — 16 Feb 2015
'Before I go to Sleep' focuses around an interesting concept of someone who forgets everything upon going to sleep. This did beg the question of what qualifies as a sleep? And what is a nap? What is a snooze? Unfortunately these were not in the minds of the directors, although I would probably have preferred them to have been.
The story is not paced particularly well, nor is it coherent. This leaves severe gaps in the plot, which in this type of movie is vital to avoid. It did have me guessing for most of the film, although I think the introduction of more characters would have made it more interesting.
It's shorter length helps it to come to a conclusion quickly, as the constant backtracking and needless conversations began to make the film drag.
