Review of Penny Dreadful (2006) by Jesus H — 15 Nov 2009
Now, I realize there's been plenty of jokes being made about how Penny Dreadful is so dreadful, but that really, really does explain this movie. It's nothing original, it's really just The Hitcher, but not as cool.
And the character of Penny was just so, so annoying. The whole time I was just waiting for the killer to hurry up and off the bitch and hurry up, which probably isn't what the makers of this movie were going for, lol.
And the killer was a little creepy, at first... until they started talking and then the killer was revealed to be, what I believe was a tall 12-year-old. Seriously, it was ridiculous. When they talked, they sounded like a man, not a very intimidating man with spouting of shitty nursery rhymes and all that, but still.
.. and then when their face is revealed they look and then also sound very much like a woman. So the only conclusion is that is must be a tall 12-year-old who is going through puberty and their voice is beginning to change.
Anyway, rants about 12-year-old killers aside, that is why this movie really was just dreadful. It did have a pretty creepy atmosphere, in the middle of nowhere in the winter, but that's about it, and it definitely wasn't enough to make it enjoyable.
