Review of Beetlejuice (1988) by Ben T — 15 Mar 2014
Beetlejuice is a fantastic example of Tim Burton in his prime. Beetlejuice is a weird mix of horror, comedy, weird and wackyness and I love it. The movie is so weird it's hilarious, with some pretty creepy imagery.
You can really tell its a Tim Burton movie, it's got weird imagery, wacky sets and characters, laugh out loud moments and horrifying scenes. I was very suprised this movie was originally rated PG I mean it really says something about how strict we've got nowadays seeing as this movie was allowed to get away with Beetlejuice saying fuck and a woman holding a mans severed head, when a movie like Philomena was rated R because it had more than one use of the word fuck.
Michael Keaton is great, he has probably the best scene of the movie with Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis and really gets to shine in the finale. Overall Beetlejuice is a strange but hilarious movie with weird and odd characters and fantastic direction by Tim Burton.
Grade B+.
