Review of Bee Movie (2007) by Mary I — 24 Sep 2011

I didn't see this until now even though I've heard of it. I'm not really regretting it. It was funny. I enjoyed Jerry Seinfeld's acting. There were parts of it that left me wondering and not in a good way what was going on.

For starters real honeybees don't get stuck with the same job all their life. Their age determines what job they work. Younger bees start off as nurses and then mature into becoming foragers and guards.

But this is a fantasy movie. I understand the idea of taking liberty and using a bit of imagination. I do that too with my own writing. I don't always stick to scientific facts either. I like to make up stuff too.

That's what makes stuff creative and fun, however there are some parts in this movie I feel it went a bit too far and over the top. I can list specific scenes, I think even a child would wonder about too.

I'll just list a couple, because this post is already far too long. One is how all the flowers could die but yet there still being roses for the parade. They couldn't get flowers anywhere else.

Also the whole plane scene just left me confused how the producers pulled off such a scene post 9/11. I would think the there would be a lot more concern from the humans overall if they wanted to relate to modern times.

As far as the whole style goes, I thought the characters look cute. I'm not sold on the color scheme chosen for the nest, but it is okay. As far as CG graphics go, I'm not really into the trend.

Blame it on me growing up with the 80's and 90's traditional 2-D animated movies, but I greatly enjoyed those over these 3-D attempted movies. The 2-D stylization worked. The humans and animal characters were more expressive.

Seeing this movie I am reminded of one key thing I didn't like about Bug's Life for that same very reason.
