Review of Bedtime Stories (2002) by John N — 29 Apr 2010
There was nothing child-like about his film to warrant a bedtime story. The movie was supposed to be imaginative and enjoyable; but instead it provides ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for kids. I am sick and tired of unimaginative film-makers trying to create meaningful films for children.
(I'm defining "imaginative" as fantasy). Why do producers and studios think that children always laugh at lame-*%$ theatrics? Do we view our children's intelligence as too moronic to understand serious fiction? Do we believe that they are completely ill-equipped to engage life in the movies? Spike Jonze and Guillermo De Torro have shown us a better way.
They've shown that children can understand that, despite life's darkness, there is still good worth living for.
